Lessons from Publishing: Navigating Obstacles with Grace

Recently, I found that Amazon blocked my little workbook, Nina’s Five Simple Ways to Beat Stress and Anxiety. I was perplexed because it was published for several days before being blocked. Their reasons for the blockage were that the cover was too similar to my novel Bridges of Resilience: A Teenage Journey for Friendship, Courage, and Discovery, and it seemed that buyers would confuse the two. I reasoned that I wanted the workbook to be a companion to the novel.  However, I certainly understand Amazon’s objections from the cover point of view.

Accustomed to trying to follow the rules and be trustworthy, I felt embarrassed, stressed, and confused. I briefly also felt defeated.  Determination, yoga, and T’ai Chi practice, plus the hints I provided in my Practical Workbook, 5 Ways to Beat Stress and Anxiety, prevailed, and I’m about to attempt to re-publish the edited little workbook, minus the reference to Bridges of Resilience and the similarity to its cover.

I hope I am successful this time.  I believe that sometimes the overwhelm of anxiety is so strong that when presented with a large number of choices or information, the sufferer feels even more unable to cope and retreats further. I want to provide a few simple, practical, supportive choices to assist readers in experiencing hope, and a sense of efficacy that fuels even more strength and determination.

I’ll let you know if my workbook makes the grade this time.  If it does, hopefully, readers will find it useful and uplifting.

Be well my friends and enjoy this holiday season,

Suanne
